Lessons from Mulan
I love the movie Mulan because it is full of adventure and war, because some wars are fought for good reasons, like in Mulan’s case.
Mulan, a girl who has not “impressed” the matchmaker, does not get a husband. At that time it was a family dishonor to not get married. Mulan was really sad that she had disappointed her parents.
Mulan did not consider being beautiful, getting a husband and living quietly as the most important things in life. Instead she longed for adventure and the chance to help others.
This chance soon came to her when the Huns attacked China!
During Mulan’s time every household in China was obliged to send a man to serve in the army. Mulan’s family was impelled to send a man, and because Mulan’s father was the only man in her family, he had to serve in the army. But Mulan knew that her father would die as his leg was injured and he was old.
Back then Chinese people were driven by honor and shame, and at this point Mulan had the shame of not getting married and her father wanted to keep the honor of his family by serving in the army.
Will Mulan be able to bring honor to her family and save China?
With the help of Mushu, her new friends and the General, Li Shang, Mulan sets out to...WAR!!! They fight bravely, shooting cannons, bows and arrows, and using swords! This shows that courage is not only found in boys, but also in girls.
I also love this movie because it shows that everyone has different talents and sometimes you have to try really hard to find it and show it. Your talent won’t be something which people will just see! For example, if you want your talent to be cooking, but you don’t cook no one will see that your talent is cooking! You have to cook first and you might encounter trial and error at first, but if you keep practicing it will become your talent!
When I think about Mulan or watch it I always think about a book by Grace Lin – The Mountain meets the Moon (A book which you all must read!!!). The girl in the book is also very adventurous and helps many people while trying to bring fortune to her home. But that is a story for later...
Mulan is a must watch movie! It is for all ages above 3 years.
After reading this desire to read the book and watch the movie.
